The referendum campaign to increase Maine’s minimum wage to $12 by 2020 has now raised more than $400,000. This total includes 5,823 individual contributions averaging less than $40 each. 98% of campaign contributors live in Maine.
"We're proud of the grassroots support we’ve seen across Maine for raising the minimum wage and we’re eager to pass this referendum to improve the lives of 159,000 Mainers and deliver a much-needed boost to Maine’s economy,” said Mainers for Fair Wages campaign manager Amy Halsted. "This campaign is about thousands of single mothers struggling to raise their kids on poverty wages and thousands of seniors who can't afford to retire. It's about boosting the economy by creating a level playing field for local businesses and putting more money in the pockets of people who will spend it here in Maine."
